Q. When are squirrels a problem?
A. In nature squirrels are cute. In your home they are noisy, destructive and smelly. Squirrels, being rodents, are compelled to chew to keep their teeth worn down. So they chew on various materials in your house: plastic pipe, vents, wires, wood, and siding. Chewed plastic pipes can cause flooding.
Q. Why did the squirrels pick my house?
A. All animals are opportunists. They are looking for a food, safety and shelter. In the case of squirrels, when there is food available from bird feeders, pets, or nut tress and gardens, a home is even more attractive. Predators rarely penetrate the attics and chimneys occupied by squirrels, giving them great feelings of safety. Finally, climate controlled buildings provide a warm, comfy place to raise baby squirrels.
Q. Why do squirrels want to live in my attic?
A. Squirrels use attics as a handy substitute for the hard-to-come-by hollow tree. Attics are a great place to raise baby squirrels.
Q. How do squirrels get in my building?
A. Squirrels access homes through existing gaps, such as unscreened vents, holes made by other animals or birds, and through holes they create themselves. They access the high parts of buildings from trees, vines or connecting wires.
Q. How can I get the squirrels out?
A. Hire a professional for on-site removal, or try our over-the-phone squirrel removal coaching service.
Q. Why do I need to get rid of squirrels?
A. The first reason most people give for getting rid of squirrels is noise. If that were the only problem with squirrels I might recommend you just live with it. But noise is the least of your problems. Damage from chewing can cause everything from expensive maintenance needs to floods and fires. Disease transmission from squirrels and the insects and parasites that live with them is also a big issue.
Q. When do squirrels come into houses?
A. Squirrels actively search for nesting sites mid-December, January and in early summer. However, if they happen on a good site, they can move in any time of the year.
Q. When is the best time to get rid of squirrels?
A. As soon as you know they are in your home. Don’t wait. We can remove squirrels, even with litters of young, any time of the year. Better yet, put preventative measure in place and keep them from getting in in the first place.
Q. Where do squirrels live?
A. In their natural habitat, squirrels build nests in trees. However, squirrels are resourceful and have moved into the human world very successfully and are common in suburban and urban areas. Attics of homes are similar to big, hollow trees: dry and safe with the added bonus of warm. Squirrels can climb just about anything and chew their way in as soon as they find a vulnerable area.
Q. Where do squirrels usually enter a building?
A. They enter through chimneys, unscreened vents, gaps in siding, shingles or other exterior materials, or through holes created by other animals or that they create themselves. They get to the high areas of the home by jumping from nearby trees or climbing and running along electrical, television or telephone wires and cables.
Q. Where can I get help with my squirrel problem?
A. Call us. We are professional squirrel removers and have trained technicians who can help you get rid of the squirrels, keep them out, and clean up the mess. 732-309-4209
Q. How do I know if I have squirrels in my attic?
A. Usually homeowners are alerted to squirrels by noise. Quick scurrying, thumping and scratching sounds come from attics, walls, or chimneys. The second alert is visible damage to the home including chewed holes or urine stains seeping through ceilings. Strong, highly unpleasant smells are an additional indicator. If you see squirrels at bird feeders or pet bowls on your property, there is a significant chance they are also in your home and you just haven’t noticed yet.
Health & Safety
Q. What are the health risks of having squirrels in my residential or commercial building?
A. Squirrels can carry rabies and, therefore, should be treated with caution and any bite immediately treated by a medical professional. They pose other threats including fleas and ticks, and Tetanus.
Q. Will the squirrels attack me?
A. Squirrels won’t generally attack unprovoked, but will bite and scratch in defense.
Q. Who is responsible for this squirrel problem?
A. The property owner is responsible. Cities, counties, states or federal government agencies will assist with problem domestic animals (like dogs) or big game (like deer, elk or cougars), but not pest wild animals. Wild animal removal is part of private property rights and responsibilities, similar to shoveling your sidewalks in winter. Wild animal removal is best performed by trained professionals who specialize in the removal of pest animals.
Animal Control Products and Methods
Q. Which poisons do you recommend to kill squirrels?
A. Poisoning animals is not a good idea because if they die in your attic, you have a bigger problem than you started with. Exclusion is a much safer and more effective technique than poison. It is illegal in New Jersey $1500 fine and $1000 per day environmental violation until cleaned up and disposed of by strict regulatory guidelines.
Q. Which squirrel repellents are the best?
A. The old-wives tale that predator urine will get rid of squirrels doesn’t work. Other gimmicks like ultrasonic sound, flashing lights, mothballs and ammonia also fail. I know of no truly safe and effective repellent on the general market today.
Q. Which methods can I use to exterminate squirrels?
A. There are many ways to kill a squirrel, but you don’t want it to die in your house. Be very cautious or you will cause greater problems than you currently have. Professional animal removal is the best alternative and leaves your home free of squirrels, alive or dead.
Q. Which methods do you use to get rid of squirrels?
A. We use trapping, venting, exclusion and structural maintenance.
Q. Who should I call for help?
Call Eliminex Wildlife 732-309-4209. We are professional squirrel removers and work with wild animals all the time. Remember that your local dog catcher or division of wildlife officer is not trained in squirrel removal. It is in your best interest to contact a specialist.
Q. Why should I hire a professional to get rid of squirrels?
A. Squirrel removal is not easy. It requires the physical removal of squirrels and their babies, exclusion of the animals in the future, repairs to the home or other building, and clean up of waste. All of these are difficult, technical processes best performed by professionals with equipment and experience.
Q. What damage can squirrels cause?
A. The number one squirrel threat to homes and other buildings, believe it or not, is FIRE. Chewed wiring creates a major fire hazard and is a truly deadly danger. Other damage includes destroyed, smelly insulation and damaged ceilings from urine soaking through from the attic. Exterior damage includes large holes chewed in roofs, gables, siding, fascia and other materials. On a minor note, but still annoying, is the tendency to overrun birdfeeders, driving away the birds you have worked so hard to attract. Even small squirrel infestations cost hundreds of dollars in repairs and, left untreated, the damage quickly reaches thousands of dollars worth of damage.
Q. What is this going to do to my property value?
A. Smelly, chewed up homes are hard to sell. Reduction in value can total 10% and salability drops dramatically.
Q. What will a wildlife removal technician do about the squirrels in my building?
A. We work to remove the squirrels and keep them out using professional, humane methods. We also clean up the mess to make your home or other building safe for your family and coworkers. Possibly the most important job we perform is the necessary repairs and maintenance to the structure to help safeguard against future infestations.
Chewed wires cause shorts and fires.
Q. How can a wildlife removal technician help me get rid of the squirrels?
A. You may get advice to just block their holes or put out traps, but there is a lot more to getting rid of squirrels than that. Incorrectly performed, these attempts can cause more problems than they solve. A professional will perform a complete structural inspection to identify entry points. Animal removal may include physical handling of litters of babies and includes special equipment such as one-way vents. Entry points must be sealed and future problems prevented by repairing or modifying the structure. Finally, a thorough cleanup gets rid of the mess and smells that trouble you and entice the squirrels back.
Q. How much does it cost to get rid of squirrels?
A. Most jobs involve removal of squirrels from the attic of a house. We've done attic removals without trapping fees starting at $750 with only one-way exclusion installs and simple repairs starting at $400, to as high as $3000+ for very complex cases involving many hard repairs, baby squirrel nests, attic cleanup, etc. The less costly (non-trapping) would be for situations that just one entry point has been confirmed and there is only 1 squirrel to be removed.
We still monitor for activity for an additional 2 weeks before performing any final repair / exclusion seal up. Removing nests / babies / Clean Up is additional.
If there is more than 1 squirrel, then it's going to be a family of 4 up to 7 on average and will have to go the trapping and relocation route to avoid extensive damage due to re-entry attempts by multiple angry newly evicted squirrels. Get them off your property rather than simply seal them out.
Q. How much does it cost to get rid of raccoons?
A. If it's just ground-based trapping, then it's not too expensive, but when you have raccoons living in an attic, that's a serious job that is going to cost several hundred dollars, even approaching a thousand or more in very tough cases involving heavy home repairs and attic cleanup.
Q. How much does it cost to get rid of rats or mice?
A. It's important to understand proper rodent control: Poison-laying pest company - NO! Building sealing wildlife trapper company - YES. It's tempting to try a cheap poison laying approach at first, but that NEVER solves the problem. To get rid of the problem permanently, with 100% guarantee, you've got to seal the entry holes in the building shut and trap and physically remove rats, and that takes money, usually several hundred dollars and several service trips.

THEY CAME AND SET TRAPS IN THE ATTIC. AM WAITING FOR THEIR RETURN VISIT TO SEE WHAT THEY CAUGHT (IF ANYTHING). STILL HAVEN'T HEARD NOISE IN THE ATTIC AT NIGHT SINCE THE INITIAL VISIT IN 2014 ELIMINATED THE PROBLEM FOR A YEAR.

Had an inspection for raccoon damage and contamination in my attic.
I had been waiting for another company who never showed up. Eliminex was very informative on the phone, made arrangement to come next day. Operations Manager Derek and worker Robert arrived next day and were very professional. They did a complete inspection of attic, took pictures of damage and biohazard evidence of raccoon infestation. They were very careful to cover area under access door to attic n cleaned anything that dropped out of hatch. Derek gave me a full explanation of what work needed to be done and how they would do it and also how long the job would take. I was assured all insulation would be removed and a specialized vacuum used, decontamination and special treatment used to remove bad odors which can attract more raccoons.
I was extremely pleased with the owner who arranged my next day inspection and staff who did inspection. Having retired as an EMS inspector for state health dept I was impressed.

I couldn't speak more highly about our experience with Eliminex. Some reviews said that the service was pricey, and frankly it is, but I've never had: an actual person from a company answer every call at any hour, answer all your questions, email a quote & contract, service people who show up when they say they will, start and finish a job, all with a pleasant attitude, professionalism and knowledge like this company. We had a family of raccoons in our attic and they set traps, checked them daily, removed the animals in a respectful manner, cleaned up, repaired the damages, and secured the house to prevent future issues. We are very satisfied customers!
Thank you Derek!!

Flying Squirrels are the “little squirrels of the night” here in New Jersey. These little squirrels are abundant. Yet because they only are active at night, most NJ folks have no idea they are around. They are mainly in the homes from the middle of September to late May early June. Although, they will still go into houses in the summer months when bad summer rains and winds cause them to move in for a few days. They are a small squirrel and are a very social squirrel. A family group in the fall can range from 2 to 8 and in the winter numbers can range from 10 to 30 plus on any given night. They do not have the territory instincts as the Grey Squirrel and Red Pine Squirrels. The average hole for a Flying Squirrel is around the size of a quarter to half dollar. Many times we get calls in the middle of the night from customers telling us they have a baby squirrel running around the bed room. When I ask do they have big eyes and the answer is yes well it is not a baby squirrel, it’s a Flying Squirrel. Because of their size the squirrels dropping are not much bigger than a large mouse dropping. Many Pest Control and inexperienced Wildlife Operators will think the home has a bad mouse problem. Because the noise is always at night and the dropping size smaller than a Grey Squirrels. When you call ELIMINEX WILDLIFE we will know many times if you have Flying Squirrels while we are asking questions and the answers you give while still on the phone. We offer two year warranties on Flying Squirrel jobs but most will not need our service again for many years to come. Signs that Flying Squirrels are waking you up and not mice are a lot of noise at night for 2 to 4 nights in a row then nothing for a few nights. The noise sounds like marbles rolling around. High pitched chirps. The noise and activity is strongest during bad weather nights. Noise goes away for a day or 2 after you go into the attic to look around and can’t find anything. Sounds like a “PARTY” in the attic! Just a few of the things we hear from customers.
In New Jersey there are 2 species of Squirrels that cause problems for homeowners and properties. Everyone knows about the Grey Squirrel and the problems it causes entering homes and buildings, resulting in damage that cost thousands of dollars annually in NJ. Yet there is another little squirrel that causes as much if not more problems for the NJ home and property owners, the Flying Squirrel. This “little squirrel of the night” is many times missed and thought to be mice by the pest controller, homeowners and less experienced wildlife control operators, because of the time of night the sounds are heard and the dropping size being close to mice droppings. Both the Grey Squirrel and the little Flying Squirrel are found throughout the whole state of NJ, and both can be found in the same home or building.
Raccoons on the roof tearing shingles off or ripping the gable vent out or even the attic fan is no match for this home evader. In the late 80’s and early 90’s the Raccoon was very high on the list of wildlife problems for home owners and property owners in New Jersey. In 1992 the rabies outbreak came to the state and wiped the Raccoon population out. For years the Raccoon has not been a problem to the homeowner but today the Raccoon has re-bound back to almost the numbers of the late 80’s and half of our calls seem to be Raccoon once again! There are two reasons Raccoons enter structures; first they are looking for something to eat. Most people do not realize that the Raccoon is a predator. The Raccoon preys on song birds and ground birds, if they can catch them, but the nest is the main focus. Shore birds are at the mercy of the Raccoon. Turtle nests fall to the Raccoon by astounding numbers. The Raccoon also eats squirrels, by invading the nest in trees and has learned that young squirrels in attic nests are an easy meal. Matter fact a large portion of our Raccoon jobs the Raccoon is there because the home has squirrels. The Second reason is to live or sleep. There are circuit dens and nursing dens. The male Raccoons (boars) and the females (sows) will have multiple dens to stay in. Except a female that has young or has chosen a den to have young the coons will travel in their home circuit spending a day or two in each den then moving on to the next spot. The sow with young or when she has chosen a den to have young will be there every day. A lot of folks will think the Raccoon is gone and run up into the attic not see anything and close up the hole only to hear the Raccoon tearing the attic apart that night. Or they will hear the Raccoon leave the home and will immediately close the hole only to have the Raccoon rip another hole in the roof a week later. (The Raccoon did it the first time why would it not do it again?) Many carpenters and roofer will just close the holes, the pest controller sets a trap in the attic however ELIMINEX WILDLIFE CONTROL SERVICES will not just close a hole, as a Professional control company we understand what it takes to solve the problem. Trapping and removing the coon and closing the entry point and animal proofing the home with a 2 year warranty is the only way to do the job right. Making sure the animal is out and closing right means years without problems!
Why not use a company that knows Raccoons and what to do to solve your problems!
New Jersey Fish and Wildlife is the authority for all wildlife in the State of NJ. The laws and policies are set by them on wildlife control. Bats are protected in the state of NJ. Bat control policy at this point, which has been issued by NJFW, states there can NOT be any bat exclusion and or seal up performed from May 1st to August 1st due to the fact that young bats may be in the structures at this time. Young bats will not leave the structure till mid-July to August 1st. At which time a total and complete exclusion and seal job can be performed.
NOTE: ELIMINEX will do an inspection of a customer’s home or building between May 1st and August 1stand then schedule job to be done after August 1st.
The thought of a Bat flying around the room in the middle of the night while you are sleeping is something that most folks here in New Jersey really do not want to experience. Yet this happens too many every year. Matter of fact, most homes and structures have had Bats in the attics and walls without anyone ever knowing it! There may not be more than one or two Bats going in, checking things out, and then leaving. There are very few attics that we go into where we do not find a few Bat dropping scattered around. The Bat only needs an opening the size of a dime to a nickel: structures and homes all have what we call construction gaps. These gaps have nothing to do with the company who built your home or building. There are areas where the roof decks will not meet the fascia, or the hips and valleys or the type of ridge vents used. Matter of fact the newer the home no matter who built the home the more openings there will be for bats to gain entry. When we tell you a dime to nickel size, most homeowners cannot envision this. Carpenters get mad and tell me they leave no opening, and in their minds, they do not! However, the fact is most people have no idea about what Bats are looking for and how hard a Bat will work to find these construction gaps. There are nine species of Bats in NJ. Six of the Bats are here year round and three species part time in the summer. Yet only two species causes the problems living in structure for the most part the Big Brown and the Little Brown Bats. These Bats live in colonies and view your structure as a cool looking cave! They choose to live in homes and structures. Most of the Little Browns head to the caves for the winter, along with many of the BIG BROWNS. Although there is a large population of BIG BROWNS that will winter over in homes and structures here in NJ. Over the past few years, I have heard pest control and animal control companies begin to call these Bats, Fruit Bats. NJ has no Fruit Bats living in our state. They are a tropic Bats for the most part. This term is use to make people feel good about Bats.
My background in doing carpentry and roof work along with the understanding of the habitats and behaviors of the Bats allows me to do the work and solve the Bat problems, where many may struggle.
We have learned about the nursing periods (mid May to mid July young are not flying and in the home) and the habits of the Bats. Much of what was learned and from others around the country that were doing the same thing. Research that was being done in the early 1990’s was based off what we were doing. Today the work and know how that others and myself gained back then has created a real life system on how to do Bat work the proper way. Bat nets, valves, one way doors and other methods that do not catch, but allows the Bats to leave the structure is the preferred methods to get the Bats out of the structure. Sealing the whole structure placing the exclusion devices and then removing the devices and sealing those areas will keep the Bats out for long periods. The key to Bat work is doing it right and finding all the openings. Sad to say many of today’s pest control and newer companies do not have the experience to perform this the right way. Finding a hole and putting a tube over it may keep the Bats from using that hole again but the Bats will find the hole 2 feet down the roofline. We have found that Bats will try to re-enter the structure for 2 to 3 years after.
Eliminex is not a hard sell, high-pitched company that is going to force you to do Bat work. We tell you what you have, and what you need to do. If you want us to do the job, we will
